Television producer, Paul Henning who spent three decades in Hollywood, wrote The Ballad of Jed Clampett. The ballad was the theme song for the popular television sitcom that Henning produced, The Beverly Hillbillies and was sung by Bluegrass legend Lester Flatt. The story took place in Beverly Hills, California and truthfully did not place the Tennessee transplant or the residents of Beverly Hills in a very good light. However, Henning portrayed Beverly Hills correctly in the sitcom’s theme song with the insertion of the brief phrase describing Beverly Hills-“swimming pools, movie stars”.
